Thread: Woot-Off pages out of sync

  1. #1
During the last couple of Woot-Offs, Wootalyzer does not seem to sync properly with my browser. While the Wootalyzer picture seems to be up to date, most of the time the page it posts automatically into my browser involves the previous Woot item. It seems that when Wootalyzer updates itself, it connects my browser to the previous item's most recent page, either the "bouncing button" or "sold out" version. Clicking the "View Item" button on Wootalyzer generally loads the correct page, but frequently not until some additional time has passed. This behavior may have started when I upgraded to IE9, but I am not sure. It is happening on all my machines. I am using the latest Wootalyzer, 3.54.10, in Win7. Wootalyzer is a great program and it seems that it used to work perfectly for me.

It almost seems as if Wootalyzer is prescient. New items show up on Wootalyzer, but the active page returned from Woot.com is always the preceding item. In some cases, the lag is not just a moment or two--I've seen Wootalyzer at least 10 minutes ahead of what I can get to via Woot.com.

I've even tried going to one of the other Woot sites (e.g., kids.woot.com, sellout.woot.com), and checking the links they have to the current Woot! deal. Each time, they point me to the (according to Wootalyzer) older item.

We don't have a proxy on our Internet connection, so it's not as if I'm pulling a cached copy.

    BTW--IE 8, running on WinXP Pro x64.

Me too ... using Firefox 3.6.15 and if I open a new window or refresh, it's still the old page. I opened Google Chrome and it opened matching Wootalyzer... however, I haven't figured how to set Wootalyzer to open a Chrome browser page to see if that is different.

So it continues ... and the pages come up as if the product is still available... however, I clicked on "Buy It" on Wootalyzer and it opens the correct Buy page ... so we shouldn't miss out on the BOC coming up soon

Another woot-off, and this is still occurring. I wonder how many people come to the support forum, see this thread and think, "Ah, good. They're aware of it. No need for me to go through the hassle of creating an account just to post about this because it will be fixed at any moment." Like I did during the last woot-off. And yet, it persists.

This has been going on for a very long time now. In some cases an item shown on Wootalyzer will not come up on my Woot.com screen until the item following it has sold out. I wrote in a few years ago about this and received a response, which I cannot find, but the problem remains.

Months have gone by and still no fix - wootalyzer is broken - time to uninstall...

Not really a Wootalyzer problem, Wootalyzer just exposes the issue. The issue is that Woot updates feed before web page so Wootalyzer gets the new item before the website.
Perhaps Wootalyzer could add a delay to loading the web page?

    OR...

What I would really like is for Wootalyzer to load pages in the same window, so if I leave running overnight I don't end up with an overloaded and possibly crashed browser.

This can help here as Wootalyzer could go ahead and load page immediately so we get the quickest load, but follow up with a refresh a bit later.

When Wootalyzer shows the next product before the official website, this gives you advance notice of what is coming up next. I don't really see the problem. Possibly this information could be displayed differently without having to bring up the official website in another window. It could even be an advantage to know what's coming up.

    Also:
This evening near the end of a listing, Woot! still showed an item as being available, while at the same time Wootalyzer showed the same item as being Sold Out. I even went through the motions to buy it until Woot! showed me CLICK THIS STUPIDLY LARGE BUTTON so apparently the item was available.

As xstatic said, the feed apparently happens before the website is updated.
